9 Billion and Counting Speaker Series

The University of Minnesota’s College of Food, Agricultural and Natural Resources Sciences (CFANS) is supporting the Stakman-Borlaug Center with the creation of the 9 Billion and Counting, 9B+, speaker series that will foster cross-cultural communication and engagement between our CFANS community and the many international scholars that are a part of our broad international community. Today more than ever before, the challenges to food security are complex. A changing global climate, shifting crop production patterns, diminishing natural resources, and a growing world population - projected to reach 9 billion by 2050 - all contribute to the challenge. Food production challenges, food nutritional content, food safety concerns, and food distribution logistics further complicates the picture. At The University of Minnesota and around the globe, researchers are partnering with policymakers and industry leaders to leverage disciplinary diversity to solve complex food security challenges, building upon the vision of Dr. Borlaug. In this speaker series we hope to highlight some of the important work done by the University of Minnesota and our global community of partners.
