Francisco Diez-GonzalesThe Food Safety Microbiology Laboratory studies the interaction of human pathogenic bacteria (Salmonella and Escherichia coli O157:H7) with lettuce, spinach and peanut plants and tissues. Specifically, they are identifying relevant bacterial genes for survival when pathogens are associated with leaves and roots. We are also assessing the potential for internalization into plants of Salmonella cells present in the soil.
