As the Associate Director of Oat Global, Will interfaces with SBC leadership and staff, and the Oat Global Board of Directors to facilitate dialogue and interactions within the Oat Global community, secure external funding to support research and extension in oats, manage a growing portfolio of Oat Global research and extension priorities, and manage a variety of tasks to grow and support the organization.
Will has nearly a decade of experience working in the agriculture and food space aligning pre-competitive research with the bottom line of industry. He specializes in developing long-term, multi-stakeholder, integrated research and commercialization systems. This involves design and implementation of incentive systems and collaborative models, facilitating negotiations and agreements between Universities and industry guiding intellectual property and data sharing, grant writing, program management, and leading industry, Federal and State relations.
Will’s other projects include the Wheat Genetics Resource Center (A National Science Foundation Industry/University Cooperative Research Center), Grants and Industry/University Partnerships for the Kansas Wheat Commission, and Sustainability Consultant for the National Agricultural Biosecurity Center and Department of Homeland Security.
Will has an M.B.A. from Kansas State University where his practicum was related to creating financial investment models for food and nutrition programs in developing countries. He comes from a Colombian family and enjoys golf, good wine and great food.
